What counts as real wood here
"Wooden shutters" covers a lot of ground in this industry, some of it generous. To be plain about ours: three collections are timber through and through, and each earns its place differently.
Wood shutters, wooden shutters, timber shutters: three names for the same thing, and people search all three. We say wooden on this page and nothing turns on the word.

Every one is made to your millimetres, whichever you choose. The prices are per-square-metre starting rates, and because we are supply-only there is no surveyor's visit or fitter's day rate hiding inside them.
Basswood, and why shutter makers rate it
Basswood is the timber the shutter trade reaches for when it can. It is light enough that a wide panel does not drag on its hinges, stable enough to hold a painted finish without the grain telegraphing through, and it machines cleanly — which matters when every shutter is cut to a different set of measurements. That is why it carries our Signature collection, and why the flagship is a wooden one.
Heritage takes the opposite view: rather than hiding the grain under paint, its brushed-timber finish makes a feature of it. If you are choosing wooden window shutters precisely because you want the room to know they are wood, Heritage is the honest end of the range.
Which rooms suit timber
Living rooms, bedrooms, studies, halls and landings — anywhere the air stays reasonably dry, real wood is the straightforward choice and will quietly outlast most of the furniture.
Painted or wood tone?
All three timber collections take a painted finish. If you want the timber itself on show, four wood-tone finishes — Riva, Maple, Walnut and Cedar — are available on Signature and Heritage, our two finest collections. Whites and neutrals are the perennial choice — the full painted palette runs from white through cream to grey.
Any style you like
Material and style are separate decisions, and the timber collections carry the full set: full height for a single clean run of louvres, café style for privacy at eye level with the top left clear, tier-on-tier when you want both halves working independently, and solid panel for period looks and near-blackout. Louvres come in 63mm, 76mm and 89mm across the board.
What about MDF?
MDF shutters are widely sold and usually the cheapest thing on any page they appear on. We do not supply them — pressed wood fibre does not enjoy cut edges, drilled holes or damp air, and a made-to-measure shutter involves all three.
